The Personal Support Worker (PSW) certificate training program at National Academy of Health and Business was developed in collaboration with the provincial government to improve the state of long-term healthcare and provide more healthcare support to the elderly and the disabled.
A personal support worker provides personal care for the comfort and safety of their clients and helps to create an environment of physical, emotional and social well-being. They also assist in maintaining patient independence.
The Personal Support Worker certificate program prepares students for careers in a wide range of healthcare positions, facilities and settings.
Students will learn a variety of skills in the Personal Support Worker certificate program, such as:
- Development of interpersonal skills
- Household management
- Meal preparation
- Assisting a person with mobility issues
- Assisting a person who is dying
- Use of specific support devices
- Knowledge of medications
- Abuse recognition
- Interpersonal skills

The Personal Support Worker Certificate program is 26 weeks long and includes a 14-week job placement, meaning not only will you be career ready in less than a year, but you’ll have the chance to hone the skills you learned in a real-life work setting.
Students who choose the Personal Support Worker certificate program are eligible for up to five different funding options, including the Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), Employment Insurance, Second Career Payment Plans and even loans facilitated by us.
